The most visible aspect of Gadsden Reads: Big Fish
will be a series of ten six-foot catfish that will be painted
by Alabama artists and placed on Broad Street. In addition to
these ten fish, The Chamber will have a Riverfest Fish and the
Gadsden Area Association of Realtors is sponsoring their own Big
Fish (perhaps “Fillet of Sold”). Local businesses
and individuals are encouraged to order a fish to be painted and
placed around town as Gadsden celebrates the Year of Alabama Arts.
The fish can either be the property of the business, or it can
be a part of our August Charity Auction.
Buy your own fish
Cost: $1500
Businesses can purchase one fish to be painted by an artist of
their choice and placed in front of your business. This includes
recognition in 30 Big Fish books to be distributed around town.
Bait the hook with a $500 donation
Businesses who donate to the Gadsden Reads project will receive
appropriate recognition for their support.
The cost of a primed but unpainted fish is $1,500 and includes
recognition in 30 Big Fish books for citizens to read. The Center
will work with fish buyers to find artists, if necessary, as well
as on their installation. This could be a great tie in with tourism,
especially since Alabama Tourism has declared 2007 the year of
arts for promotion. Contact Bobby Welch at 543-2787, ext. 26 or
